A native of Alexandria, Ind., Lance Rinker joined the ETSU staff in July 2013, assuming the primary media relations and sports information duties of men's and women's soccer, men's and women's tennis, and softball.
With a professional background ranging from media relations to event operations, Rinker, a 2013 graduate of Butler University (Indianapolis, Ind.), has gained experience in a multitude of sports settings.
Rinker's collegiate experience included covering the 2011 Butler men's basketball team as a student journalist, documenting the Bulldogs' journey to the NCAA Final Four for a second consecutive season. As a sports editor for the university's award-winning newspaper, The Butler Collegian, Rinker helped launch a live blog that attracted viewers from across the nation and globe. His April 2012 editorial, "Butler's clean slate draws athletes," received a first place award for Best Sports Column from the Indiana Collegiate Press Association.
While at Butler, he also covered the Indiana Pacers' 2011-12 season as a beat writer, worked as a camera operator for the Indianapolis Indians baseball club (AAA affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates), and served as play-by-play commentator for 2012-13 Butler women's basketball.
During his junior and senior years at Butler, Rinker worked with the athletic department's Sports Information branch, assisting with web content, stat keeping, archive management and multimedia coverage of the university's varsity sports. He served as the primary media contact for Butler women's soccer during the team's 2012 campaign.
Rinker received the Exceptional Promise in Journalism award from Butler University's Eugene S. Pulliam School of Journalism in May 2013, in addition to being named Outstanding Junior Student in May 2012. He graduated from Butler in 2013 with a degree in electronic media, along with a minor in journalism.
Most recently, Rinker worked in the Guest Services & Logistics Department at Charlotte Motor Speedway as a racing operations intern, assisting with daily operations for numerous motorsport events, such as NASCAR's Coca Cola 600.
Rinker is currently pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Sport Management from ETSU.
