Ian Luya enters his fifth season as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the ETSU men's soccer program. Luya has been alongside head coach Scott Calabrese since his first season in 2008, helping ETSU to a 37-32-8 record in that time span.

In 2011, Luya helped guide ETSU to a 10-7-4 record and its first national ranking by both the NSCAA and Soccer America. The Bucs also defeated their first nationally ranked opponent in program history, taking down No. 24/20 UNC Greensboro on Aug. 31 and No. 14 William & Mary on Sept. 11. ETSU was ranked as high as No. 24 by the NSCAA and No. 19 by Soccer America during the 2011 season, and became the first No. 6 seed in A-Sun Championship history to advnace to the final.

In 2010, Luya helped guide ETSU to its most successful season in program history. The Bucs finished with a record of 15-6-0 en route to winning their first ever Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament Championship and earning their first berth into the NCAA Tournament. The Bucs also earned their first ever NSCAA South Region Ranking (6) and Soccer America National Ranking (34). To complete a season of firsts, the Buc’s finished with an RPI of 38^th nationally.

Since 2008, Luya has been an essential part of ETSU’s rapid improvement. Luya's recruiting classes have included the captain of Guatemala’s U20 National team, a Jamaican U19 national team player, 2 NSCAA High School All-Americans, the Tennessee State Player of the Year, various regional team players as well as numerous all-region, all-state, all conference and ODP selections.

From 2005-2007 Luya served as the assistant men’s soccer coach with fellow Atlantic Sun Confererence member, Stetson. Luya helped to guide the Hatters to their first ever post-season conference championship and NCAA tournament appearance in 2005, as well as claiming the regular season title in 2006. Luya also recruited Eugene Starikov who played only one year of college soccer before signing professionally with Zenit St. Petersburg in Russia. Starikov was recently called into the U.S. Men’s national team squad for their exhibition with Chile on Jan 22, 2011.

In addition to coaching at Stetson, Luya also spent two years as the assistant men’s soccer coach at IPFW from 2003-2005. In 2005 he became one of the nation’s youngest head coaches of a PDL franchise when he took charge of the Kalamazoo Kingdom after having served as the team’s captain in 2003 and 2004.

As a player, Luya led IPFW to a No. 5 national ranking in 1999 and was an integral part of the team that advanced to the Division II NCAA Elite Eight. Luya was a team captain from 2001-02 while being named team MVP in 2002. He finished his career at IPFW with 28 goals and 9 assists from midfield.

Luya, a native of Ormskirk, England, graduated from IPFW in 2004 with a B.A. in History.
