Ben Gleason

Ben Gleason is currently pursuing his PhD in sport performance, serves as a consultant for ROTC, and serves as the head strength & conditioning coach and sport scientist for men’s basketball at ETSU.

Gleason has worked in human performance for over seven years. He has earned certifications from the American College of Sports Medicine (Health/Fitness Specialist), National Strength and Conditioning Association (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, recertified with distinction), and USA Weightlifting (Sport Performance Coach). Also, Gleason is listed on the NSCA’s registry of strength and conditioning coaches. Gleason’s research interests include the use of athlete monitoring techniques, the use of accelerometry in Olympic weightlifters, agility training and strength asymmetry.

While at graduate school at Old Dominion University, Gleason worked as a compliance graduate assistant, while working his way into his first full-time strength and conditioning coach job at Hampton University. After leaving HU, Gleason was hired to start the base-wide physical fitness testing program for Eglin AFB, FL, where he was eventually promoted to Military Fitness Program Liaison. In this unique role, he supervised the fitness testing program, constructed and delivered educational programs to the fitness center staff and base population, implemented a deep water rehabilitation program, and oversaw the equipment purchases and operations of the Eglin Field House – a unique performance training facility.

Gleason’s athletic career included playing defensive tackle and offensive tackle at Santa Rosa Junior College (CA), offensive tackle and guard at the University of Memphis, and two seasons of club rugby in Australia. After returning to the U.S., Ben joined the Air Force and served as a personnel officer for four years. He was selected to lead the unit fitness programs for every unit he was assigned to.

Gleason currently resides in Johnson City with his wife Erin and two children, Brenna and Tyler.
