Dr. Michael White is currently the Associate Athletic Director for Communications at East Tennessee State University, and has worked at the institution for 16 years. During that time, White has overseen all responsibilities of the ETSU Athletic Communications office, including management of the Buccaneer Sports Network's radio and television coverage, administration of the program’s website, and working as the primary liaison to all local, regional and national news outlets.

White, who spent eight years as an award-winning sports editor at newspapers like the Bristol (Va.-Tenn.) Herald Courier and the Elizabethon (Tenn.) Star before coming to ETSU, is a 1996 graduate of Milligan College, where he played four seasons for the Buffaloes' baseball team. In addition, he earned a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Global Sport Leadership from East Tennessee State University in May of 2018, as well as a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from ETSU in the summer of 2008.

Beyond his daily duties, White has also acted as chair of the department's Culture of Excellence Committee, Social Network Awareness Committee and Branding Committee, while also serving on the 2007 ETSU Football Task Force, the President's Committee for 125 in 2012, and has also been a member of the department's Alcohol Awareness Task Force. He is currently part of the Institutional Strategic Planning Committee, and as a member of the ETSU Campus Communication Team, he serves in a wide variety of public relations roles across the campus and directly advises the university president.

In the community, White is a past member of the Johnson City Morning Rotary Club, and has served as a board member for the Johnson City American Little League, while also volunteering as a manager for a major league level team. He was also a cast member for the 2010 Dancing with the Tri-Cities Stars competition, which helps support the efforts of the SteppenStone Youth Treatment Center located just outside of Greeneville, Tenn. He and his family are members of Grandview Christian Church in Johnson City, Tenn.

A native of Elizabethton and lifelong ETSU fan, White is married to Dr. Sherri L. Smith. He has three children, a 3-year-old daughter named Keagan Renee, a 6-year-old daughter named Raina Grace, and an 13-year-old son named Jackson Lee.
