Tuesday, August 20, 2002Johnson City, Tenn. (Aug. 20, 2002) - Tim Turner (Marietta, Ga.), a rising junior on East Tennessee State's baseball team, was selected third on the Coastal Plain 2002 Top-10 Prospects List as voted on by the leagues coaches. Playing for Wilson in the league, Turner has been pitching and playing outfield for the Tobs. One of the top college wooden bat summer baseball leagues, the circuit consists of 12 teams that play from late May until August. Turner made his mark this summer as a starting pitcher, starting 10 games for Wilson this season, compiling a 3-4 record with a miserly 1.89 ERA. He led the league in strikeouts, fanning 95 in just 66.1 innings on the mound. He threw two complete games and held opposing hitters to a .186 average. "Tim has worked extremely hard and has had a very productive summer," said ETSU head baseball coach Tony Skole. "In establishing himself as one of the top prospects in the Coastal Plain League, he has put himself in a great situation. If Tim continues to improve many scouts believe he will be one of the top pitchers, not just in the Southern Conference, but in all of college baseball. It will be exciting to see his development, as he will be playing baseball all year round for the first time in his life. There have already been numerous professional scouts calling the office to see when Tim will be pitching in our scrimmage this fall."
