SPARTANBURG, S.C. (May 24, 2004) - East Tennessee State senior shortstop Andy Howdeshell (Maryville, Tenn.) was named the Southern Conference Baseball Player of the Week, Monday afternoon from the league office in Spartanburg, S.C.
Howdeshell batted .478 last week, with 11 hits in 23 at-bats. Andy hit in all five Buccaneer games, with a two three-hit games and a pair of two-hit games. He hit two doubles, three home runs and drove in five runs while scoring six others.
This weekend against Furman, Howdeshell batted .571 with three homers and five RBIs. He had at least two hits in each game and hit two homers on Friday night and another on Saturday. For the season, Howdeshell is third on the Bucs with a .357 batting average, leads the team with 11 home runs and is second on the team with 48 RBIs and 55 runs scored.
East Tennessee State returns to action Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. against The Citadel in the first round of the Southern Conference Baseball Tournament, sponsored by the Virginia-Carolina Peanut Growers and The National Peanut Board.
