JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 26, 2005) - East Tennessee State senior All-American catcher/pitcher Caleb Moore (Knoxville, Tenn.) led the Bucs to a doubleheader sweep of Xavier, 6-3 and 12-9, Saturday afternoon from Cardinal Park in Johnson City, Tenn. With the wins, the Bucs move to 5-0 on the season while the Musketeers fall to 0-5.
Xavier got on the board early in game one, as Jay Johnson belted a two-run homer over the left field wall in the bottom of the first.
But the Bucs responded immediately, tying the game with two runs in the bottom of the first. Senior second baseman Nick Crowe (
Xavier broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the top of the fourth. Johnson led off the inning with a single, and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Andy Zellers. With two outs, Johnson crossed the plate as Brett Smith hit a double to right-center.
The Bucs responded again, scoring four unanswered runs in the final three innings to come away with the victory. In the bottom of the fourth, sophomore third baseman Mike Giroud (
Glafenhein led off the sixth with a single to center, moved to second on a sac bunt by Hargis, then advanced to third on a on a ground out by Crowe. Byrne then came to the plate and hit an RBI single down the right-field line to score Glafenhein.

Xavier took the early lead again in game two, scoring two runs in the top of the first. With two outs, Johnson singled to left field followed by an infield single by Smith. Drew Roberts then came to the plate and cleared the bases with a double to right field.
The Buccaneer bats came to life in the bottom of the first, scoring nine runs on six hits.

But Xavier never gave up, cutting the Buccaneer lead to just one after scoring two runs in the top of the third, three runs in the top of the fifth and two runs in the top of the sixth.
In the third, Xavier Johnson walked with one out, then scored on a double to center by Roberts. Roberts came home on an RBI single up the middle by Adam Lipski.
Zellers led off the fifth for Xavier with a double down the left-field line. He would then score on a two-out single to left by Roberts. Lipski followed with a two run homer over the right field wall.
In the top of the sixth, Xavier pinch-hitter Sean Brewer hit a one-out double to right-center. Jordan Wolf then hit an infield single and moved to second on a throwing error, scoring pinch-runner Emre Caglayan. Zellers then reached on an error, advancing Wolf to third. Wolf then scored on a sacrifice fly by Johnson to make the score 10-9 in favor of the Bucs.
But ETSU put the game away in the bottom of the sixth as
"Caleb had a phenomenal day," said ETSU head coach Tony Skole following the wins. "People don't realize how difficult it is to do what we ask him to do, and he makes it look routine."

Xavier was paced by Roberts, who was 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
