JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 9, 2011) - Sophomore Derek Bushey (Richmond, Va.) was named the Atlantic Sun Pitcher of the Week after throwing a complete game two-hit shutout against North Carolina State, announced the conference office on Monday.
Bushey was phenomenal for ETSU against the Wolfpack as he faced just four batters over the minimum with six strikeouts and three walks in the contest. The sophomore allowed just one N.C. State runner to reach second base in the game.
The shutout was the first of Bushey's career as the Richmond, Va. native has posted a complete game effort in three of his last five outings. On the year, Bushey has a 5-3 record with a 3.10 ERA and 57 strikeouts. The right-hander is limiting opponents to a .244 batting average.
Bushey is the second Buccaneer to earn A-Sun Pitcher of the Week honors. Junior Bo Reeder (Cookeville, Tenn.) picked up the award on March 14 after saving four games in one week.
