JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 10, 2013) – Collegiate Baseball released its Atlantic Sun preview earlier this month and ETSU was picked to finished third, while senior two-way player Clinton Freeman (Jonesborough, Tenn.) was projected to be the league’s Pitcher of the Year.
The Bucs are coming off a 36-win campaign and advanced to the NCAA Tournament after claiming the 2013 A-Sun Championship. ETSU returns 25 players from last season’s squad including senior Dylan Tritsch (Boca Raton, Fla.), junior Chris Riopedre (Miami, Fla.) and sophomore Jeremy Taylor (Fayetteville, Ga.) – who were all listed as other top players to watch by Collegiate Baseball. Taylor and Tritsch combined for 41 of the Bucs’ 88 stolen bases, while Riopedre belted four home runs and drove in 34 runs. Tritsch ranked second on the team with a .324 batting average and also finished with 72 hits and scored 37 runs, while Taylor landed A-Sun All-Freshmen and All-Tournament Team honors.
Mercer, last season’s regular season champion and 2013 NCAA Tournament participant, was picked to finish first and North Florida was slated second in the Collegiate Baseball A-Sun preseason poll. Florida Gulf Coast was pegged fourth and Stetson rounded out the top five.
ETSU opens the 2014 campaign on Feb. 14 when the Bucs host Longwood. To purchase season tickets for the upcoming season, call the ETSU ticket office at (423) 439-3878 or visit ETSUBucs.com/tickets.
