MACON, Ga. (Feb. 24, 2014) – Senior Will Chesney (Knoxville, Tenn.) tossed 7.1 scoreless innings in four appearances last week and the ETSU right-hander landed Atlantic Sun Pitcher of the Week honors, which was announced by the league office on Monday.
Chesney, who struck out eight and walked none in the four appearances, earned the win in ETSU’s 3-2 victory at Auburn on Sunday. The Knoxville, Tenn. native didn’t allow a hit and struck out three Tiger hitters in 2.1 innings of action. Chesney began the week tossing three scoreless innings, while striking out three Longwood hitters in the 5-4, 12-inning win on Monday. Following that strong performance, Chesney threw an inning of scoreless ball against Furman and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Overall, Chesney has helped pace a Buccaneer bullpen who hasn’t surrendered a run in their last 13.2 innings of action.
This marks the first weekly honor for the sport management major.
The Bucs open an eight-game homestand Tuesday afternoon as ETSU hosts UNC Asheville at 4:05 p.m. at Thomas Stadium. The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday.
