JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 19, 2004) -- The East Tennessee State Buccaneer baseball team hosts Virginia Tech Wednesday night at 7 p.m. from Cardinal Park in Johnson City, Tenn.
It will be the second meeting of the year between the Bucs and Hokies, as ETSU defeated Virginia Tech, 11-7, in the Kingsport Classic on Apr. 27.
East Tennessee State is 27-25 on the season, having won six of its last nine games after defeating Tennessee Tech, 10-1, last night from Cardinal Park. The Bucs are led by junior catcher Caleb Moore (Knoxville, Tenn.) who leads the nation with a .477 batting average and 26 doubles. Sophomore first baseman Blake Church comes into tonight's game with a .361 batting average while senior shortstop Andy Howdeshell (Maryville, Tenn.) is hitting .346.
Virginia Tech is also 27-25 this season and has lost four straight after falling to Virginia Commonwealth, 3-2, last night from Blacksburg, Va. Sean O'Brien leads the Hokies with a .376 batting average, six homers and 45 RBIs. Chris Stanton is batting .321 and has been a terror on the basepaths, stealing 33-of-36 bases this season.
