Wednesday, July 16, 2003

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (July 16, 2003) - East Tennessee State baseball coach Tony Skole announced Wednesday that brothers Josiah and Caleb Glafenhein, of Corryton, Tenn., have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Buccaneers, beginning in the 2004 season. "What a pleasure it is for everyone associated with East Tennessee State baseball to announce the signing of Josiah and Caleb Glafenhein to National Letters of Intent," said Skole. "These two young men represent exactly what we are looking for when you talk about attracting quality student-athletes." Caleb, a right-handed pitcher/outfielder, will be a freshman for the Bucs next season while Josiah, a middle infielder, will be a sophomore, having played one season at Winthrop and batting .287. Josiah set school records at Gibbs High School in Knoxville, Tenn. with 50 single-season hits and a .462 career batting average. He was an all-state selection following the 1999 and 2000 seasons. Caleb was a home-schooled student, but excelled with the Knoxville Thunder and Knoxville Impact baseball teams. Over the last three seasons, Caleb has gone 12-4 as a pitcher and had a .352 batting average in 2001 and a .360 average in 2002 as an outfielder. He was a member of the 1999 AAYBA World Series runner-up team with the Thunder and on the 2002 Impact team that won the AABC Tennessee State Championship. "Josiah will instantly be one of the top infielders in the Southern Conference and Caleb will make an immediate impact on the mound and in the outfield," Skole commented. "You would be hard-pressed to find two better young men. They will both be a great asset to our athletic department and our campus community."
