JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (July 15, 2003) - East Tennessee State baseball players Andy Howdeshell (Maryville, Tenn.), Caleb Moore (Knoxville, Tenn.), Shane Byrne (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Jeremy Hall (Gray, Tenn.) have been named to the Southern Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Team. The game will be held on July 21 at 7 p.m. from Duncan Park in Spartanburg, S.C.
The SCBL is a wooden-bat summer league with teams in Johnson City, Tenn., Asheville, N.C., Huntersville, N.C., Kernersville, N.C., Lenoir, N.C., Salisbury, N.C., Anderson, S.C., Charleston, S.C., Columbia, S.C., Fort Mill, S.C., Spartanburg, S.C., and Clemson, S.C.
Howdeshell, a rising senior playing for the Tennessee Thunder, is currently batting .294 with five doubles, two triples, four RBI, 12 walks and 17 stolen bases. Moore, a rising junior also playing with the Thunder, is batting .278 with three doubles, six RBI and 10 walks.
Byrne, a rising sophomore playing for the Asheville Redbirds, is batting .314 with three doubles, one triple, one RBI, 13 walks and a .448 on-base percentage. Hall, a rising sophomore pitching for Asheville, has a 2-2 record with a 1.57 ERA. He has one complete game and has allowed just 15 hits in 23 innings while striking out 25 opposing batters.
