JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 1, 2005) - College of Charleston took two games against East Tennessee State Sunday afternoon from Cardinal Park in Johnson City, Tenn., completing a three-game sweep of the Bucs. The No. 26 Cougars defeated the Bucs 12-6 in the completion of Saturday's rain-suspended second game then won the series finale, 10-7.

            Saturday's second game was halted in the bottom of the third with the Cougars ahead, 6-1. East Tennessee State cut the Cougar lead to 9-5 with a run in the bottom of the seventh, but CofC scored three runs in the top of the eighth to put the game away.

            College of Charleston head coach John Pawlowski notched his 200th career victory with the win. Cougar starter Danny Gemma earned the (6-2) win on the mound, going 7.1 innings and allowing six runs on 10 hits. He also walked two and struck out six.

            Buccaneer junior Jeremy Hall (Gray, Tenn.) was charged with the loss (9-2), after pitching the first three innings on Saturday, allowing five earned runs on six hits.

            The Bucs were led at the plate by junior shortstop Chuck Hargis (Powell, Tenn.), who went 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Sophomore centerfielder Stephen Douglas (Kennesaw, Ga.) also had two hits while junior right fielder Shane Byrne (Johnson City, Tenn.) drove in two runs.

            College of Charleston was led by Brett Gardner, who went 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Philip Coker scored three runs in the win while D.J. Wabick drove in three.

            East Tennessee State jumped ahead in Sunday's final game, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. But the Cougars responded immediately, scoring three runs in the second and two in the third to take a 5-3 advantage.

            The Bucs regained the lead, 6-5, with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, but College of Charleston came back again with a run in the top of the sixth to tie the game. Then the Cougars erupted for three runs in the top of the seventh to ice the game.

            Danny Meszaros (4-0) earned the win after allowing a run on three hits over the final 3.1 innings. Buccaneer senior righty Michael Bauer (Kingsport, Tenn.) was charged with the loss (2-2), allowing three runs on two hits in 1.1 innings of relief.

            ETSU junior first baseman Blake Church (Roswell, Ga.) was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Hargis, junior second baseman Greg Roberts (Douglas, Ga.) and senior catcher Caleb Moore (Knoxville, Tenn.) each had two hits in the loss.

            Chris Campbell was 3-for-5 with three RBIs for College of Charleston while Byron Barber was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Brian Hastings also drove in three runs in the win.

            East Tennessee State returns to the diamond on Tuesday at 1 p.m. as the Bucs travel to UNC Asheville. College of Charleston returns to action next weekend as they host Furman in a three-game weekend series from Charleston, S.C.
