JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (July 21, 2005) - Tony Lombardi (Windsor, Ca.), a left-handed pitcher from Santa Rosa Junior College in Santa Rosa, Ca., has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for East Tennessee State beginning with the 2006 season.

Lombardi was named first-team All-Northern California last season and led the Bear Cubs to the prestigious California Junior College Championship, SJRC's first in 53 seasons. Tony earned the save in the state championship game, allowing a run on two hits while striking out four in four innings of work. On the year, Lombardi went 10-4 with two saves and a 2.80 ERA while walking 19 and striking out 69.

Santa Rosa won the Bay Valley West Conference Championship in both of Lombardi's seasons at Santa Rosa, going 33-14 last season and 22-12 in 2004.

"We are ecstatic that a young man of such high caliber has chosen ETSU to continue his education and baseball career," said ETSU head coach Tony Skole on Thursday afternoon. "Tony was one of the top pitchers in California last season and he comes to us from one of the best junior college programs in the country. Tony's makeup is off the charts, he is a tremendous young man, a fierce competitor, and he can really pitch. Tony will immediately be a factor in our starting rotation and I think he can be a difference maker for us."
