JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 13, 2006) - Junior outfielder C.J. Lee (Bristol, Va.) homered in each of his first two at bats, and freshman Darren Caldwell (Spartanburg, S.C.) and sophomore Jonathan Stoudt (Marietta, Ga.) combined on a to stifle Gardner-Webb's offense as the Bucs cruised to a 9-4 victory over the visiting Bulldogs in game two of Saturday's doubleheader at Cardinal Park, clinching a bid in the Atlantic Sun Championship later this month.  Gardner-Webb claimed the first game 17-14 in 10 innings.

Already leading 1-0 in the first inning, The Bucs (28-22, 14-13) extended to a 3-0 advantage on Lee's two-run blast to left field.  Senior Chuck Hargis (Powell, Tenn.) had earlier scored on junior Stephen Douglas' (Kennesaw, Ga.) infield single.

Still leading 3-0 in the third inning, senior Shane Byrne (Johnson City, Tenn.) led off the inning with a walk, and advance to second on fellow senior Blake Church's (Roswell, Ga.) single to left field.  Lee stepped to the plate and this time crushed a 1-0 offering from Bulldog starter Jonathan Ban over the right center field wall.  It was Lee's third home run in as many at bats.  The junior also homered in his final at bat of the day's first game; a solo shot to right in the 10th inning that provided the final margin.  Senior Matt Traylor (Knoxville, Tenn.) followed Lee with a double down the right field line, and junior Michael Courtney (Knoxville, Tenn.) gave the Bucs an 8-0 lead on his third home run of the year, a two-run blast to left center.

Caldwell (1-0) pitched five strong innings, surrendering four runs on seven hits and picking up the first win of his career.  Stoudt pitched the final four innings, allowing just three hits and notching his first career save.  Ban (2-4) took the loss, allowing eight runs on seven hits in just three innings of work.

Gardner-Webb (23-28, 11-16) scored four runs in the 10th inning of game one, capping a four-run rally to avoid becoming the Bucs' second consecutive sweep victim.

After ETSU scored six runs in the sixth inning to take a 12-8 lead, the Bulldogs battled back, scoring five runs in the seventh and eighth innings and tying the game at 13.  Matt Taffazoli (5-4) pitched the final four innings of the game, holding the Buc bats to just two runs on two hits.  Senior Steven Calicutt (Spartanburg, S.C.) fell to 7-5 on the year, giving up all four 10th inning runs.

Lee finished the day with eight RBI, followed by Courtney driving in six runs on the day.  The extremely offensive day featured a combined 14 home runs, 55 hits and 44 runs in the 19 innings played.

The Bucs are back in action Tuesday afternoon, wrapping up their home schedule with a 2:00 first pitch against Western Carolina at Cardinal Park.
