(Feb. 10, 2007) - Junior Anthony Russell's (Waldorf, Md.) double in the 13th inning drove in senior Michael Courtney (Knoxville, Tenn.) from third base, helping lift the Baseball Bucs to a 5-3 victory over The Citadel Saturday afternoon at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

The Citadel (1-1) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning, leading off the frame with back-to-back doubles from catcher Sid Fallaw and left fielder Chris McGuiness.  The Bulldogs later put runners on the corners with nobody out, but Story gritted through with a strikeout and double play to escape without further damage.

Freshman Drew Story (Jefferson City, Tenn.) pitched out of trouble throughout his five innings of work, allowing a runner into scoring position in four of the five frames, but exited after giving up just one run on the day.

The Bucs (1-1) took their first lead of the series in the fifth, on Courtney's two-out, bases loaded single to left field. Sophomore Troy Mendez's (Roswell, Ga.) infield single led off the inning, and fellow sophomore Ben Allen (Kingsport, Tenn.) moved him to second with a single to center.  After senior C.J. Lee (Bristol, Va.) was hit by a pitch, Courtney stroked Citadel starter Matt Crimm's 0-1 offering to left, plating Mendez and Allen for a 2-1 ETSU lead.

Freshman Tanner Moore (Chattanooga, Tenn.) doubled to lead off the eighth inning, moved to third on Russell's fly out to right field, and plated the Bucs third run on junior Justin Aughey's (Lake Davie, Fla.) groundout.

Third baseman Matt Arnold pulled the Bulldogs within a run with a leadoff home run in the ninth inning, and Fallaw's single to right scored pinch runner Aaron Beasley from second, tying the game at three.

Following three scoreless extra frames, the Bucs finally broke through in the 13th as Courtney led off the inning with a single and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch.  After Russell's double, Aughey provided an insurance run with a single through the right side.

Senior Caleb Glafenhein (Knoxville, Tenn.) pitched six innings of relief for his first win of the season, Link Sauders (0-1) took the loss for the Bulldogs.

The teams conclude the series Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
