(Feb. 9, 2007) - The Citadel Bulldogs scored seven runs in a two inning span Friday night, sending the Baseball Bucs to 13-6 season opening loss from Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

After surrendering a first inning home run preseason All-Southern Conference outfielder Chris Swauger, junior starter Brandon Langston (Ringgold, Ga.) settled down, retiring the side in the second on four pitches and sitting down the Bulldogs in order in the third as well.

After the Bucs (0-1) tied it in the fourth on three doubles from junior Anthony Russell (Waldorf, Md.), sophomore Ben Allen (Kingsport, Tenn.) and senior John Weddle (Knoxville, Tenn.), Langston ran into trouble again in the bottom half.

Right fielder Sonny Meade led off the frame with a single to right field, and first baseman Zach Brown followed with a homer over the right field wall, reclaiming the Bulldogs' two run advantage.  Later in the inning, Shortstop Kyle Jordan converted Bryan Altman's triple into another Citadel run with a double down the left field line for a 5-2 lead.

The Bulldogs (1-0) broke the game open in the fifth, scoring four runs, three unearned, for 9-2 advantage.  Swauger started the rally with a one out double to center field, coming home on Meade's single.  A two out error by freshman shortstop Justin Tramble (Marietta, Ga.) allowed Meade to score, and catcher Sid Fallaw capped the inning's scoring with a two-run double to left center.

Freshman Tanner Moore (Chattanooga, Tenn.) hit his first career home run in the sixth inning, and the Bucs added another run in the seventh, but the Citadel dispatched any hopes of an ETSU rally with three more runs in the bottom half.

The two squads will continue the series Saturday afternoon with a 2 p.m. first pitch.

Other Notes: Senior Justin Aughey (Lake Davie, Fla.) hit his first home run of the season in the eighth inning.

Allen tied a career high with three hits on the night.
