NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 26, 2008) - The ETSU baseball team kept its postseason chances alive Saturday as they defeated Lipscomb at Lee Marsh Stadium in Nashville, 4-2.

 

ETSU (13-30, 9-17) out hit the Bisons 8-6 in another pitchers duel. ETSU starter Ben Andrews (Leesburg, Fla.) was great in his first start of the year as he went 7.2 innings only allowing two runs on five hits and struck out five while walking two as he picked up his third win of the season.

 

The Bucs scored first in the top of the first as Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) singled up the middle scoring Troy Mendez (Roswell, Ga.) to give the Bucs a 1-0 lead.

 

Lipscomb tied the game in the bottom of the fourth as Caleb Joseph singled in a run to make the score 1-1.

 

Mendez put the Bucs back in front in the top of the seventh driving in Ben Allen (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Jacob Fabry (Chattanooga, Tenn.) to give ETSU a 3-1 lead.

 

Bart Roark (Mountain City, Tenn.) added to the Bucs lead in the top of the eighth as he doubled in Danny Petro (Atlanta, Ga.) to make the score 4-1.

 

The Bisons cut into the ETSU lead in the bottom of the eighth on an Allen Bolden RBI single up the middle to cut the Buc lead to 4-2.

 

Senior Matt McGahey (Jonesborough, Tenn.) came into the game in the eighth and shut down the Lipscomb offense picking up his first career save as he pitched 1.1 scoreless innings striking out two batters.

 

Mendez and Roark each had two hits for the Bucs as Mendez led the team with two RBI in the game.

 

The Bucs are back in action tomorrow in the rubber match game against Lipscomb at 1 p.m. EST.
