JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 26, 2008) - The ETSU baseball team fell to Tennessee Tech Wednesday night at Cardinal Park in Johnson City, Tenn., 10-1.

 

ETSU (5-17, 5-7) was out hit by Tennessee Tech 13-5 as the Bucs were stymied by the Golden Eagles pitching.

 

Tennessee Tech jumped out in front in the first inning scoring four runs on RBI singles by Chris King and Evan Webb, an RBI double by A.J. Kirby-Jones and a ground ball to second by Sean Reilly to take a 4-0 lead.

 

The Golden Eagles scored again in the top of the third on an Alex Henry RBI single to extend its lead to 5-0. In the top of the fourth, Tennessee Tech would score three more runs on a two-run single by King and a sacrifice fly by Webb to make the score 8-0.

 

The Bucs cut into the Golden Eagle lead in the bottom of the sixth as Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) drove in Nick Belcher (Abingdon, Va.) to make the score 8-1. The Golden Eagles answered in the top of the seventh with a run on their own on an RBI single by Reilly to give Tennessee Tech a 9-1 lead.

 

In the top of the eighth, Tennessee Tech scored another run on another RBI single by King to increase the Golden Eagle lead to 10-1.

 

Drew Story (Jefferson City, Tenn.) and Dustin Plumlee (Powell, Tenn.) pitched well in relief as Story pitched 2.2 innings giving up no runs on one hit and struck out three, while Plumlee pitched a perfect ninth for ETSU.

 

The Bucs are back in action on Friday at 7 p.m. as they will host a three game series against conference opponent North Florida in a three game series. Game two of the series is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. with game three to follow 30 minutes after the completion of game one.
