ETSU Baseball struggles at Tennessee Tech, 15-6

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (March 12, 2008) - The ETSU baseball team was defeated by Tennessee Tech, 15-6, at Bush Stadium in Cookeville, Tenn. Wednesday afternoon.


ETSU (1-12, 1-5) out hit the Golden Eagles 17-12, but five errors and 16 runners stranded would hamper the Bucs as they would not be able to overcome the Tennessee Tech lead.


Tennessee Tech would jump out to an early 1-0 lead on Chris King RBI single up the middle. The Bucs had a scoring opportunity in the top of the third but Anthony Russell (Waldorf, Md.) would be throw out at the plate an a Jon Edmonds (Johnson City, Tenn.) single to left.


The Golden Eagles would score 11 runs seven hits in the bottom of the third as the Bucs would commit four errors in the inning using three different pitchers in the inning.


The Bucs would score three in the top of the fourth cutting the Golden Eagle lead down to nine runs on RBI single by Jacob Fabry (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Russell. Tennessee Tech would score again in the fourth on a wild pitch by Jimmy Tidwell (Acworth, Ga.) to make the score 13-3 through four innings.


ETSU would score two in the fifth on a solo shot by Troy Mendez (Roswell, Ga.) and an RBI single by Fabry, and in the sixth they would cut the lead to 13-6 on a hard hit ball by Ryan Self (Mount Juliet, Tenn.)


In the bottom of the sixth, Sean Riley would drive in two more runs on a double down the left field line to make the final score 15-6.


Mendez, Allen, Russell, Belcher and Fabry all had mutli-hits on the day as Fabry had a game high four hits and three RBI.
