ETSU loses game 2 of series to Auburn, 12-1

AUBURN, Ala. (Feb. 23, 2008) - The ETSU baseball team could not get the bats going as they fell to Auburn, 12-1, in game two at Plainsman Park in Auburn, Ala. on Saturday afternoon.

 

ETSU (0-2, 0-0) was limited to two hits on the day as the Bucs could not get the offense going. Freshman pitcher Josh Means (Kennesaw, Ga.) gave up ten runs on nine hits in a little more than three innings pitched, walking four and striking out one.

 

Auburn (2-0, 0-0) continued its hot hitting from Friday as the Tigers had 14 hits in the game. The Tigers and Bucs combined to make eight errors in the game. ETSU left seven runners stranded as Cory Luckie picked up the win for the Tigers.

 

Game three of the series is set for 4 p.m. tomorrow from Plainsman Park in Auburn, Ala. Live stats will be available on the Auburn website.

 

Auburn started the scoring in the first inning when a sharp liner to center by Joseph Sanders brought in a run to take an early 1-0 lead. The Tigers would score four runs in the second inning on hits by Ryan Jenkins and Hunter Morris, and a sacrifice fly by Luke Greinke.

 

Mean would get knocked out of the game in the fourth after giving up four more runs on doubles by Mike Bianucci, Morris and Sanders. Auburn would add another run in the fourth on an RBI single by Kevin Patterson.

 

Jacob Fabry (Chattanooga, Tenn.) drove in the Bucs first run of the game in the fifth inning as junior Ben Allen (Kingsport, Tenn.) came in to score on Fabry's grounder to first.

 

In the sixth, Auburn would score two more on a Justin Hargett single to right to make the score 12-1. Dustin Plumlee,(Powell, Tenn.) Drew Story (Jefferson City, Tenn.), Darren Caldwell (Spartanburg, S.C.) and Ben Andrews (Leesburg, Fla.) combined to pitch four innings of relief only allowing two run on four hits while striking out seven.
