JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 23, 2009) - The ETSU baseball team is set to take on Virginia Tech Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. at English Field in Blacksburg, Va.
The Bucs and Hokies will play a two game series with game two slated to start at 3 p.m. on Wednesday. ETSU is coming off a two game sweep of Evansville having won 16-10 on Friday and 9-8 on Saturday. The Bucs are led by sophomore Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) who was 4-for-7 with two RBI, a double, a home run and scored five runs against the Purple Aces.
ETSU is 16-29 all-time against the Hokies. Under current head coach Tony Skole, the Bucs are 4-2 against Virginia Tech with last meeting coming in 2005 when ETSU swept the season series.
Virginia Tech comes into the series undefeated after going 4-0 this past weekend at the Courtyard by Marriott Baseball Classic in Spartanburg, S.C. The Hokies defeated UNC Asheville 21-4 on Friday, Wofford twice on Saturday, 14-10 and 10-2, and USC Upstate 12-3 on Sunday. Virginia Tech is led by junior catcher Anthony Sosnoskie who was named the tournament MVP after going 9-for-14 this past weekend with two doubles, three home runs, seven RBI, six walks and scored seven runs.
