Thursday, March 04, 2010
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 4, 2010) - The ETSU baseball team is set to host 30th ranked St. John's in a three-game series starting on Friday at 3 p.m. at Cardinal Park.
The two teams will meet on Saturday at 2 p.m., and will close out the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
ETSU (6-1) is currently on a six-game win streak after sweeping Saint Peter's at home last weekend. Junior Chas Byrne (Johnson City, Tenn.) leads the team with a .526 average, while freshman Scott McNally (Marietta, Ga.) has been stellar out of the bullpen as he is off to a 3-0 start.
The Bucs are 1-2 all time against the Red Storm having lost a three-game series to St. John's in 2006. The series will be the second time this year that ETSU has met a ranked opponent. The Buccaneers defeated 34th ranked Kansas State 10-6 in The Citadel Memorial Challenge.
The Red Storm (6-0) are also currently on a six-game win streak after going 3-0 at the second annual Big East/Big Ten Challenge. St. John's defeated Minnesota 5-4 before getting a 2-1 win over a very good Michigan team. The Red Storm closed out the tournament with a 6-4 win over Illinois.
St. John's comes into the weekend with a team average of .333 led by Sean O'Hare who is hitting .458, while Paul Karmas leads the team with three home runs and 12 RBI.
