Bucs sweep doubleheader against Saint Peter's

Offensively ETSU pounded out 30 hits on the day as the Bucs were led by centerfielder Matthew Scruggs ( Chas Byrne ( With the two wins the Bucs extend their win streak to five games, five short of the school record ten straight wins set last season. In the first game, the Buccaneers exploded for five runs in the bottom of the first highlighted by a two-run single by first baseman Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) to make the score 5-0 ETSU. ETSU extended the lead to 10-0 in the bottom of the second on a solo home run by Reeder and RBI singles by Kerry Doane ( Shortstop Jamie Crawford ( The Bucs extended their lead to 12-0 in the bottom of the fifth on a RBI double by Byrne to right center. Brian Schroeder got the Peacocks on the board in the top of the sixth as he drove a two-run home run over the fence in right to make the score 12-2 Bucs. ETSU tacked on five more runs in the bottom of the six on four hits including a two-run single by Reeder and a RBI double by Reynolds to put the Buccaneers up 17-2. Saint Peter's got a run in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Chris Christopoulos to make the final 17-3. In the second game, the Peacocks jumped out to 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a solo home run by Conor Mullee. Saint Peter's added two more runs in the top of the fourth on two ETSU errors to take a 3-0 lead. In the top of the fifth, the Peacocks extended their lead to 4-0 on a RBI single by Tom Bouck. Brian Koster brought home another run for Saint Peter's in the top of the sixth on a sac fly to left. The Peacocks then scratched across another run later in the inning on a Mullee RBI single to make the score 6-0 Saint Peter's. The Bucs rallied in the bottom of the sixth scoring five runs on a two-run single by Scruggs, and a two-run triple by Reeder to cut the Peacocks lead to 6-5. Doane tied the game for ETSU at 6- all in the bottom of the ninth on a single to left that scored Hoilman from second. With the bases loaded, Reynolds ended the game on a walk-off single down the left field line to make the final 7-6.
