An eight-run seventh propels Blue to game 2 win over Gold in Blue/Gold World Series

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 9, 2010) - The Blue Squad rallied to score eight runs in the seventh inning as they went on to take game two of the Blue/Gold World Series 13-8 Saturday afternoon at Cardinal Park.
 
Freshman Clinton Freeman (Jonesborough, Tenn.) pitched well for the Blue Squad holding the Gold to two runs in 5.0 innings of work.
 
Junior Bo Reeder (Cookeville, Tenn.) got the offense going for the Blue Team in the top of the first as he lifted a two-run home run to right.
 
The Blue team got out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning as Andrew Green (Powell, Tenn.) came in to score on a single by Derek Niesman (Wellington, Fla.), but the Gold Squad answered scoring two run in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead to 3-2. After a Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) double, senior Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) doubled to center scoring Hoilman. Later in the inning, Trent came in to score on a John Long (Anderson, S.C.) ground ball to short.
 
In the top of the sixth, junior Dylan Pratt (Johnson City, Tenn.) crushed a two-run homer to left center to extend the Blue Squad's lead to 5-2.
 
The Gold team grabbed its first lead of the series in the bottom of the sixth as they scored four runs in the inning to go ahead 6-5. Cory Betterson (Atlanta, Ga.) came in to score on a bases loaded walk to sophomore Kerry Doane (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.). Then Long picked up his second RBI of the day as his grounder to second brought in Hoilman from third. Freshman Zach Waters (Woodstock, Ga.) capped off the scoring for the Gold as he singled in two runs.
 
The Blue Squad came right back though as they rallied for eight runs in the top of the seventh highlighted by three two-run singles by Skyler Barnett (Johnson City, Tenn.), Freeman and Green to take a 13-6 advantage.
 
Trent cut the lead to 13-7 in the bottom of the eight on a RBI double. Long then brought in his third run of the game on another grounder to short, but Scott McNally (Roswell, Ga.) went on to shut the door as he threw a scoreless ninth to make the final 13-8.
 
Offensively, Green finished the day 3-for-4 with a double, while Reeder and Barnett each had two hits apiece for the Blue Team. For the Gold, Trent was 2-for-3 with two doubles and Doane was 2-for-4.
