Hoilman named to 2011 Golden Spikes Award Watch List
Tuesday, February 22, 2011
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 21, 2011) - Coming off of a weekend that saw the Bucs go 2-1 as the Atlantic Sun opened the season with a combined 27-11 record, senior first baseman Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) was named to the 2011 Golden Spikes Award Watch List, announced USA Baseball on Monday.
"This is a tremendous honor for Paul," said head coach Tony Skole. "The Golden Spikes Award Winner is the equivalent to the Heisman Trophy winner in college football. I've said this many times before, but Paul deserves every honor which comes his way. He is such a great leader and an outstanding person. He really exemplifies what a student-athlete is all about."
Hoilman is one of ten semifinalists from 2010 to be named to the prestigious list including Virginia's Danny Hultzen, Florida State's Mike McGee and Rice's Anthony Rendon. The local product hit .600 (6-for-10) with a double, home run and five RBI against Marist.
"Paul got off to a good start last weekend, and I encourage all of our fans to come and watch this young man play," Skole added. "Seeing him hit is definitely worth the price of admission."
The Bucs return to action Friday at 3:05 p.m. as they host Rider in a four-game series. For more information on ETSU baseball and all other Buccaneer athletic news please visit www.ETSUBucs.com.
