JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 26, 2011) - A five-run fifth inning for Rider was the difference as the ETSU baseball team fell 7-4 to the Broncos in the second game of the doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Cardinal Park.

Freshman Clinton Freeman (Jonesborough, Tenn.) was tabbed with the loss for the Bucs (4-2) after giving up five runs on four hits in 4.1 innings.

The Buccaneers got things going in bottom of the third inning as third baseman Bo Reeder (Cookeville, Tenn.) singled in sophomore Derek Niesman (Wellington, Fla.) from second to take a 1-0 advantage.

Rider (1-2) answered in the top of the fourth scoring two runs on two hits including an RBI double by John Ralston to go in front 2-1.

The Broncos added five runs in the fifth to take a 7-1 lead. With the bases load, third baseman Adam Wayman brought in a run after being hit by a pitch. In the next at bat, designated hitter Steve Galella drove a grand slam over the left field fence.

Catcher Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) cut into the lead in the bottom of the fifth with his bases clearing three-run double to right center to make the score 7-4 Rider.

The Bucs would not get any close though, as the Rider pitchers combined to retire six of the next seven batters to close out the game.

Offensively, Reeder led the way for the ETSU going 2-for-4 in the contest with an RBI and scored a run.

The Buccaneers return to action tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. as they close out the series against Rider. For more information on ETSU baseball and all other Buccaneer athletic news please visit www.ETSUBucs.com.
