28th ranked Hatters power past Bucs in game one, 15-4

DELAND, Fla. (March 25, 2011) - A seven-run fourth inning for Stetson was difference as the ETSU baseball team dropped a 15-4 decision to the 28th ranked Hatters Friday night in game one of the series at Melching field in DeLand, Fla.
 
John Long (Anderson, S.C.) was tabbed with the loss for the Bucs (13-6, 5-3 A-Sun) after giving up seven runs (two earned) on eight hits, while Lindsay Caughel improved to 4-0 on the year holding the Bucs to four runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts.
 
Mark Jones was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate for Stetson (19-4, 6-1 A-Sun) as the Hatters outhit ETSU 18-14 in the contest despite the Bucs having five players with multiple hits.
 
The Buccaneers got things going in the top of the first as Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Dylan Pratt (Johnson City, Tenn.) hit back-to-back solo home runs to put ETSU in front 2-0.
 
In the bottom half of the inning, the Hatters cut the lead to 2-1 as Jeff Simpson came in to score on a sacrifice fly to left by Nick Rickles.
 
Stetson went in front in the bottom of the second as the Hatters scored two runs on RBI singles by Ryan Lashley and Robert Bruce to make the score 3-2.
 
The Hatters blew things wide open in the bottom of the fourth as they scored seven runs on six hits and two Buccaneer errors to take a 10-2 lead. An RBI double by Lashley capped the scoring in the inning.
 
Catcher Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) cut the Stetson lead to 10-4 in the top of the fifth as he sent a two-run homer to right for his fourth home run of the season.
 
In the bottom of seventh, Stetson added five runs on five hits and an ETSU error to take a 15-4 advantage highlighted by a two-run single by Spencer Theisen.
