Bo Reeder Saturday, May 14, 2011 JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 13, 2011) - Junior Bo Reeder (Cookeville, Tenn.) tied the Atlantic Sun single season save record with his 16th save of the year as the ETSU baseball team powered past Campbell with three home runs to defeat the Camels 7-5 Friday night at Cardinal Park.
Reeder's 16 saves ties Jamie Emiliano of Florida International who set the record back in 1995. With the win, the Bucs (32-17, 13-10 A-Sun) have tied the most wins under head coach Tony Skole with 32, while Skole needs just two more wins to reach 400 in his career.
Starter John Long (Anderson, S.C.) ran into some trouble early in the contest, but settled down to retire 23 of the last 25 batters he faced to improve to 6-5 on the season. Long struck out a career-best ten batters in the win allowing just six hits in 8.0 innings of work.
Campbell reliever Matt Marksberry was tabbed with the loss after giving up three runs on four hits in 0.2 of an inning.
ETSU out hit the Camels (16-33, 2-23 A-Sun) 9-6 in the contest as both Andrew Green (Powell, Tenn.) and Dylan Pratt (Johnson City, Tenn.) had multi-hit performances. Green's single in the fifth inning increased his hit streak to a team-best 11 games.
The Camels exploded for four runs to start the contest. After Long struck out Ellis Lowe to start the top of the first, Campbell pieced together four straight hits combined with two Buccaneer errors to make the score 4-0.
In the bottom half of the frame, senior Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) crushed his 18th homer of the season to left center to cut the Camels' lead to 4-1.
Bryce Grady increased the Campbell advantage to 5-1 in the top of the sixth on a solo home run to left. The Bucs answered though in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run homer to left center by Pratt to pull ETSU within two runs.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Buccaneers completed the comeback on a two-run homer to left by catcher Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) to tie the game at 5-all. Later in the inning, Kerry Doane (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) gave ETSU a 6-5 lead as he doubled down the right field line to score Pratt from first.
Reeder added an insurance run for the Bucs in the bottom of the eighth on a RBI single up the middle to make the score 7-5.
The junior closer then came in to throw a scoreless ninth inning for the Bucs as he is now 16-for-17 on the year in save opportunities.
The Bucs and Camels are back in action tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. as the two teams are slated to play a doubleheader to close out the series. It will be senior day at the ballpark as well.
