MACON, Ga. (May 19, 2011) - A two-home run day by senior Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) was not enough as Mercer scored five unanswered runs to come from behind and defeat the ETSU baseball team 10-8 Thursday night in game one of the series at Claude Smith Field in Macon, Ga.

Both the Bucs (35-18, 15-11 A-Sun) and Bears (35-17, 16-11 A-Sun) had 15 hits in the game as Billy Burns had a game-high four hits and drove in the winning run for Mercer in the bottom of the eighth.

Dak Rissman (West Palm Beach, Fla.) was tabbed with the loss after surrendering four runs on five hits to fall to 5-2 on the year, while Russell Moses earned the win for the Bears throwing 2.2 scoreless innings of relief.

With the Bucs down 5-4 in the top of the sixth, ETSU rallied for four runs on RBI singles by Derek Niesman (Wellington, Fla.), Andrew Green (Powell, Tenn.) and Dylan Pratt (Johnson City, Tenn.) and a bases loaded walk to Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) to take a 8-5 edge. The Bears however grabbed the momentum as centerfielder Billy Burns made a diving grab in right center to rob Kerry Doane (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) of extra bases with the bases loaded and two outs.

In the bottom of the sixth, Mercer cut the Buccaneer lead to 8-7 after a RBI triple by Burns and a sac fly by Joe Winker. The Bears continued the comeback in the seventh on a solo home run to straight away center by Austin Barrett to tie the game at 8-all.

Mercer completed the comeback in the eighth as Derrick Workman led off the inning with a single. After a sac bunt moved Workman into scoring position, Burns came up with the game winning hit as he pushed a single down the right field line to plate Workman. The Bears would add an insurance run on a RBI single by Jacob Tanis to make the score 10-8

All nine batters for ETSU had at least one hit in the contest as six of the nine posted two hits. Green's single to lead off the contest extended his hit streak to 15-games as he continues to hit well for the Bucs.

Hoilman put the Buccaneers on the board first in the top of the first inning with a solo home run to left center.

The Bears answered plating four runs in the bottom of the first as Mercer pounded out five straight hits highlighted by a three-run homer by Thomas Carroll.

In the top of the fifth, ETSU tied the game at 4-all after back-to-back home runs by Bo Reeder (Cookeville, Tenn.) and Hoilman.

Mercer regained the lead in the bottom half of the frame on a solo home run to right by John Moreland.

The Bucs return to action tomorrow at 6 p.m. as they face Mercer in game two of the series in Macon, Ga. For more information on Buccaneer baseball, visit ETSUBucs.com or follow the Bucs on Twitter at http://twitter.com/ETSUAthletics.
