Baseball spends day reading at Southside Elementary

Monday, April 29, 2013

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 29, 2013) – The ETSU baseball team took a break from competition last week as the Buccaneers made a trip to Southside Elementary to read to a group of young children.

The team gave back to the community by reading children’s books and playing games with Ms. Henry’s kindergarten class, while teaching them the importance of school.

“Our guys had a great time at Southside Elementary,” said head coach Tony Skole. “It is very rewarding to see the impact they have with the youth of our community. Serving our community has always been a big part of our program and we will continue to be involved in the future.”

“Getting the opportunity to read to those kids and put a smile on their face is priceless,” said senior local product Alex Reynolds. “Sometimes, as athletes, we take for granted the privilege we have to put on our uniform every day. Those kids look up to us and they would give anything to be in our shoes. Getting the chance to give back and do something which means so much to them is something that always means more than wins and losses.”

The ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics takes pride in its community service activities and strives for 100 percent participation from its student-athletes, coaches and administrators throughout the year.
