Senior right-hander becomes first A-Sun hurler to record 11 wins since 2010 when FGCU’s Chris Sale went 11-0

MACON, Ga. (May 13, 2013) – Senior right-handed pitcher Kerry Doane (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) accomplished a rare feat on Friday night and the Buccaneer hurler was rewarded for his dominating effort by collecting his second Atlantic Sun Pitcher of the Week honor, which was announced by the league office on Monday.

Doane – who tossed his NCAA-leading 10th complete game and fourth shutout last Friday night in a 1-0 victory at No. 21 Mercer – became the first A-Sun pitcher to win 11 games since former Florida Gulf Coast and current Chicago White Sox ace Chris Sale accomplished the mark back in 2010. The Buccaneer hurler also struck out five and didn’t issue a walk in the nine innings of work. In addition, it was just the third time since 1992 where the Bucs won a 1-0 game and the first since March 27, 2005 when Jeremy Hall and Caleb Moore combined for a three-hit shutout at UNC Greensboro.

Following Friday night’s win, the Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., native improved to 11-1 on the season and is 8-0 with a 2.19 ERA (17 ER/70.0 IP) in his last eight starts. Doane’s 10 complete games are one shy of tying the single-season school record and his 11 wins are two shy of tying the program mark set by Caleb Glafenhein in 2007. Meanwhile, Doane's four shutouts this season are tied with Jeff Andrews (1978-81) for the most in program history.

Doane is tied for third nationally in wins and is only one of five Division I pitchers to have won 11 or more games this season. Overall, Doane has pitched 109 of the 117.0 total innings in his 13 starts this season.

Doane is the first ETSU player to receive Pitcher of the Week honors twice in one season, and it also marks the third time this year the Blue and Gold have received the accolade, setting a new program record.

The Bucs wrap the 2013 regular season schedule this week when ETSU hosts Jacksonville in a three-game series beginning Thursday night. First pitch of the opener is set for 7:05 p.m., at Thomas Stadium.
