LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BUCS
ETSU (7-9) is coming off a 17-11 loss at UNC Asheville on Wednesday afternoon at Greenwood Field.
The Bucs tied season highs for runs (11) and hits (14), but the Blue and Gold couldn’t rally back from a 14-run deficit.
Clinton Freeman (Jonesborough, Tenn.), Zach Thompson (Johnson City, Tenn.), Dylan Tritsch (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Zach Mize (Gainesville, Ga.) all provided ETSU with two-hit efforts, while Chris Riopedre (Miami, Fla.) homered in the losing effort. Riopedre (three RBI), Freeman (two RBI) and Thompson (two RBI) drove in seven of the 11 ETSU runs.
Seven of ETSU’s runs came with two outs; however, the Bucs were unable to get their leadoff hitter on in all nine innings.
Bryant has played its first 11 games on the road and enter the weekend series with a 5-6 record.
The Bulldogs are coming off a pair of wins at North Carolina A&T on Tuesday and Wednesday, while taking a three-game series from USC Upstate two weeks ago.
Bryant has six players hitting above .300 with sophomore infielder Dan Cellucci leading the way with a .382 clip. Cellucci has 13 hits in 34 at-bats, along with five doubles and 11 runs scored.
The Bulldogs won the 2013 Northeast Conference Championship and went 1-2 in the Manhattan Regional (defeated Arkansas). Bryant was picked as the league favorite in 2014.
This marks the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
