FT. MYERS, Fla. (May 22, 2014) – For the second straight day, the ETSU baseball team will play an elimination game in the Atlantic Sun Baseball Championship.
The sixth-seeded Buccaneers will take on the seventh-seeded Stetson Hatters Friday at 3 p.m. at FGCU’s Swanson Stadium.
ETSU (27-29) kept its title defense alive by defeating second-seeded Mercer, 7-1, on Thursday. Meanwhile, the Hatters – who beat Mercer in extra innings on Wednesday – fell to Kennesaw State, 7-5, Thursday evening.
The Bucs won two of three from Stetson (25-33) in the A-Sun conference opener in March at Thomas Stadium.
Stetson leads the all-time series over ETSU, 19-12, while the teams have met four times in postseason play (2-2). In addition, 14 of the 31 games have been decided by two runs or less – with each team going 7-7 in those games. ETSU is 5-2 in one-run games, while the Hatters are 5-2 in two-run affairs.
The winner of Friday’s game will have to beat Kennesaw State twice on Saturday to advance to Championship Sunday. First pitch of game one on Saturday is set for 10 a.m.
Friday's game will be broadcast live on A-Sun.TV for free, while “Voice of the Bucs” Jay Sandos will carry the call live on WXSM-AM 640 The Extreme Sports Monster.
