JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 21, 2015) – ETSU baseball head coach Tony Skole announced the hiring of Daniel Bowman to the Buccaneer coaching staff on Wednesday.
Bowman, who spent the 2014 season playing in the Arizona Diamondbacks farm system, will help work with ETSU’s outfielders, hitters and base runners.
“I am excited to welcome Daniel to our ETSU baseball family,” said Skole. “We are very fortunate to find such a perfect fit for our coaching staff. His expertise is in outfield play, along with hitting and base running, so I am very excited to see our players improve under his guidance. Daniel was an All-American player and one of the top players in the country during his career at Coastal Carolina. He recently finished his pro career with Arizona Diamondbacks, so his playing experience was top notch. Most importantly, is the type of young man Daniel is. Our players are going to benefit tremendously by being around Coach Bowman on a daily basis.”
Bowman was a four-year letterwinner at Coastal Carolina, where he helped guide the Chanticleers to four Big South regular season and tournament championships, while also winning the 2010 NCAA Regional. In 2012, Bowman capped off his senior campaign by receiving Big South Player of the Year and All-American honors. Bowman was also named the 2010 Big South Tournament MVP and received Freshman All-American honors by Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball and Ping! Baseball.
Bowman graduated from Coastal Carolina as the program’s leader in games played (246), games started (244), at bats (963), hits (309), RBI (206) and total bases (526). Furthermore, he’s the first player in Big South history with 200 runs scored, 200 RBI and 300 hits.
After graduating from Coastal Carolina, Bowman played two seasons for the Lake Erie Crushers in the Frontier League before spending time with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2013-14.
Bowman is a native of Bridgewater, Va., and graduated with a B.S. in Sport Management.
The ETSU baseball team has begun preparations for the 2015 season, which begins Friday, Feb. 13 when the Bucs host Eastern Kentucky at Thomas Stadium.
