JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 5, 2015) – The World Series for ETSU baseball began on Friday, Oct. 2 as the Blue team defeated the Gold team 8-4. Both teams connected for 10 hits each while both teams displayed dominating pitching in the nine-inning game.

Both teams displayed strong pitching as 18 pitchers were able to get their chance on the mound in Game one.

  • Josh Jacques (Rollinsford, NH)- IP, strikeout, and a pop-out recorded
  • Matt Turner (Knoxville, Tenn.)- IP, two groundouts, and a strikeout
  • Ryan Simpler (Lewes, DE)- IP, fly out, groundout, and a strikeout
  • Blake Smith (Ninety Six, SC)- IP, two groundouts, and a strikeout
  • Lee Haeberle (Hendersonville, Tenn.)- IP, fly out, and two pop-outs to second
  • Connor Bartow (Jonesborough, Tenn.)- IP, two fly outs to center, and a strikeout
  • Chris Cook (Kingsport, Tenn.)- IP, groundout, fly out, one hit, and a strikeout

The Gold team showed some strong at-bats as they connected with three extra base hits while just striking out five times in 38 at bats. The Blue team had 40 at bats with 10 hits and five walks.

  • Christian Bailey (Kingsport, Tenn.)- 3-for-4, RBI double to left, two singles, and a run scored
  • Lance Mays (Ridgely, Tenn.)- 2-for-4, two singles, two runs scored, and a stolen base
  • Robby McCabe (Port Richey, Fla.)- 2-for-4, triple to right, infield single, run scored, and a RBI
  • Hagen Owenby(POwell, Tenn.)- 2-for-4, double and single to center
  • Dillon Clift (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.)- 1-for-2, two walks, single to center, RBI, stolen base, and a run scored
  • Doug McFarland (Monhton, PA)- 1-for-3, RBI single to right field, SAC fly, and RBI groundout
  • Sam Stewart (Kingsport, Tenn.)- 1-for-4, solo home run to right field
  • Seth Cunningham (Bristol, VA)- 2-for-4, two infield singles

The second game of the ETSU World Series begins Monday at 5 p.m. at Thomas Stadium. Admission to watch the game is free and open to the public.
