SPARTANBURG, S.C. (May 2, 2016) – Following a conference sweep of VMI, ETSU sophomore catcher Hagen Owenby (Knoxville, Tenn.) earned Louisville Slugger National and Southern Conference Player of the Week honors for his performance from April 25-May 1, which was released Monday.
In four games this past week, Owenby posted a .650 batting average, along with a 1.150 slugging and a .650 on-base percentage. The Knoxville, Tenn. native tallied at least three hits in all of the four games – highlighted by a four-hit performance on April 30 against VMI. Owenby also homered in all three games in the weekend sweep over the Keydets this past weekend at Thomas Stadium.
In the series opener against VMI, Hagen went 3-for-5 with a double, a two-run homer, and five RBIs to lead the team to a 15-5 victory. He also accounted for eight RBIs in the weekend series and touched home seven times.
Owenby led the team to a 9-6 comeback victory over VMI with his game-tying solo home run in the seventh inning on Saturday. He matched his career high in hits (4) in the three-run victory, while also matching career bests in runs scored (3) on Saturday and Sunday.
Owenby ranks 20th nationally in hits (68) and 21st in home runs (12) after leading the team to a 3-1 record in the past week.
The Bucs will conclude their brief four-game homestand on May 4 when the Bucs look to sweep the season set with Winthrop. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Thomas Stadium.
