GREENVILLE, S.C. (May 29, 2017) – Leading the ETSU baseball to an impressive Southern Conference Tournament run, Aaron Maher (Brentwood, Tenn.) was recognized on the All-Tournament Team for his performance at Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C.

Maher guided the Bucs to a 3-2 record at Fluor Field where the Bucs started the tournament red-hot against the reigning SoCon Tournament Champions. ETSU came back on the Catamounts in the ninth inning to upend WCU 8-6. With ETSU down 6-3 in going into the ninth inning, Maher connected with a two RBI double to make it a one run game. Cullen Smith (Lebanon, Tenn.) eventually broke the tie with his game-winning triple with two outs in the same frame.

The junior nearly won the second round game for ETSU against the ultimate tournament champions, UNCG, when he nearly connected with the game-winning home run that curled in front of the right field foul pole with two outs. Despite dropping that game to the Spartans, ETSU rebounded against VMI as Maher posted the walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth.

In the 16-6 run-ruled game against Samford, Maher spanked a three-run home run in the sixth inning, which made it a 13-5 game for ETSU. He followed that performance with a two-hit game against the Paladins where both of his hits were RBI doubles.

Maher finished the tournament with a .385 batting average (10-for-26) where he connected with three doubles, one home run and tied for the team-lead in RBIs (8). He touched home five times and slugged .615 and posted an on-base percentage of .429.

The junior had at least one hit in every game in the SoCon Tournament including three multi-hit performances. Highlighting his tournament was a four-hit performance against VMI along with a pair of RBI doubles against Furman in the final game of the season.

Even with his bat being red-hot in the tournament, his defense was stellar where he posted three putouts including a pair of assists, which led all outfielders for the Blue and Gold. He even showed dominance on the mound where he appeared in two games with a 3.00 ERA. He recorded a save against Western Carolina where he held the Catamounts scoreless in the ninth frame. He struck out one batter in his two appearances and held opponents to a .250 batting average.
