SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Feb. 19, 2018) – After a quality outing on the mound to open 2018, ETSU junior transfer Micah Kaczor (Tampa, Fla.) earned conference pitcher of the week, the Southern Conference offices announced Monday afternoon.
Kaczor, a transfer from St. Petersburg College who made his debut for the Bucs last Friday against Northern Kentucky, threw 6.0 innings and allowed just two hits and one unearned run for a quality start in a 6-2 win. In picking up the W, Kaczor fanned 12 NKU hitters and did not record a walk.
“Micah executed pitches and competed,” said ETSU head coach Joe Pennucci. “Everything starts on the mound. When you pitch like that, it’s easy to play defense and makes scoring a lot more fun.”
In 22 batters faced, Kaczor had complete command by allowing just two hits. He limited NKU to a team average of 0.91 through the six innings of work.
Among SoCon pitchers, Kaczor is the only player to throw more than 4.0 innings without allowing a walk. He is also the only conference pitcher with double-digit strikeouts.
Kaczor’s 12 strikeouts fell just three short of Reid Casey’s ETSU school record of 15 in a game.
Kaczor and the Bucs return to action this weekend at Florida Gulf Coast Feb. 23-25 with Friday’s game beginning at 6:30 p.m. Saturday’s first pitch is set for 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
