2005 Season: Pitched in four games last season and also played three games in the field ... Worked 3.2 innings on the mound and did not post a decision ... Struck out seven opposing batters ... Had two at-bats on the season, reaching base once on a walk. 2004 Season: Yates played in 22 games in the field last season, starting 10 ... He also pitched in 11 contests, starting two ... Yates batted .271 with two doubles, three runs scored and seven RBIs ... Went 2-for-4 in his first collegiate start, Feb. 18 at Georgia ... Had season-highs with three hits and two runs scored against Wofford on Apr. 9 ... Earned the win in his first ETSU start on the mound, going five innings and allowing one run on five hits against Radford ... Finished the season strong, pitching a scoreless inning in a win over Tennessee Tech on May 18 and pitching three innings without allowing an earned run against Furman on May 22. High School: Yates was a three-year baseball letterwinner for coach Matt Skinner at Landmark Christian High School in Fairburn, Ga. ... As a junior in 2002, the Atlanta-Journal Constitution named Yates to the Fulton County All-Star Team after going 7-1 on the mound and hitting .450 with 27 RBIs ... He led the Eagles to a runner-up finish in the region and to the second round of the state playoffs ... As a senior, he batted .480 with seven home runs and was 7-2 as a pitcher ... He led Landmark Christian to the regional championship and to the third round of the state tournament ... Following the season, he was named all-area by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution ... After both his junior and senior seasons, he was rated by Baseball America as one of the top pitching prospects in the state of Georgia.
