JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 5, 2003) - East Tennessee State head football coach Paul Hamilton released the team's finalized 2003 schedule on Monday.
The Buccaneers will open the season Thursday, Aug. 28 at Eastern Michigan and will return to Memorial Center to play their first home game of the season on Thursday, Sept. 4 against Concord College. ETSU will face other non-conference foes such as UT-Martin (Sept. 11) and Liberty (Oct. 18). The conference schedule will sport the same tough Southern Conference foes, including trips to Appalachian State (Oct. 4), Furman (Oct. 25) and Wofford (Nov. 8), as well as a home contest against perennial national power Georgia Southern (Nov. 1).
"We're excited about opening the season at Eastern Michigan against a member of the Mid-American Conference," Hamilton said. "We think our non-conference schedule is one we can be very competitive against, and our Southern Conference schedule again features some of the best teams in all of Division I-AA football. Our team is looking forward to playing this schedule and having a very respectable showing that will make our fans and supporters proud."
