Wednesday, February 06, 2002

Johnson City, Tenn. (Feb. 6, 2002) - East Tennessee State University football head coach Paul Hamilton and his staff announced today the commitment of 25 players to join the Buccaneer football program for the 2002 season. The group includes 20 freshmen and five transfers and is highlighted by a strong group of 11 players from Tennessee. "I feel that we have really accomplished the goals that we had," Hamilton said. "One of those goals is for us to be a dominant I-AA program in the state of Tennessee. This recruiting class is probably as elite a group that we have signed from the state of Tennessee. We are really proud to see some of our local kids come into the program as well as being able to go into Chattanooga, Nashville and Knoxville and get some outstanding players. I really feel good about our impact in the state of Tennessee. We also feel good in that we can go into South Carolina and Georgia and sign some quality players. We have also addressed some of our immediate needs with our mid-semester players that we have already brought in and then add players like Matt Palmer and Gaven Varner from Georgia Military College; it enhances our football team to be successful in 2002."
