JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 3, 2014) – With less than 365 days left until the first official game against Kennesaw State on Sept. 3, 2015, the ETSU football team released its 2014 practice and scrimmage schedule on Sept. 3, 2014, as well as information regarding an exciting football celebration day later this month.
The schedule includes events such as the first practice on Sept. 15 and a total of four public scrimmages that will be held in various locations, including J. Fred Johnson Stadium in Kingsport and the Stone Castle in Bristol. However, the highlight of the plans this fall will be an on-campus football celebration called “Game Time 101,” which will be an all-day event set for Saturday, Sept. 27th and will feature the team’s first official open scrimmage at precisely 1:01 p.m. Each of these events throughout the fall will be free to the public.
“Our hope is that this Game Time 101 event will give our fans a sneak peek at what an ETSU game-day experience will be like,” said ETSU Senior Associate Athletic Directior/COO Scott Carter. “We want people to come out and tailgate throughout the day. We will have a jumbo-tron screen on hand so fans can watch ESPN Game Day, as well as keep up with their favorite national games from around the country.
“We will also have multiple sponsors and vendors on hand who will have booths, games and contests scheduled throughout the day, and some of those special activities will include a Kids’ Zone, a barbeque contest and tailgater of the day award. But the most exciting part of the day will begin at approximately noon, as we will have a special ETSU Game Day Show featuring Coach Torbush, followed by the Buc Walk, the introduction of our team, and our first open scrimmage.”
Game Time 101 will be hosted in the parking lot located behind Warf-Pickel Hall and adjacent to the new parking garage on the west side of campus. Fans wishing to camp overnight on Friday evening can do so beginning at 6 p.m. that day, and events on Saturday are set to begin at 9 a.m.
As for the scheduled scrimmages, ETSU head coach Carl Torbush said the hope is to engage as many fans as possible throughout the Tri-Cities region.
"Everywhere I go people are excited and supportive of our program,” Torbush said. “As we made plans for this fall, we definitely thought it made sense to go to Kingsport and Bristol for scrimmages, and to make it easy for people throughout the area to come and watch our young men.”
“As of today we are only 365 days away from officially kicking off this program against Kennesaw State. And that day will be here before we know it.”
