JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 15, 2014) – With the announcement of the start time for the Tennessee vs. Georgia football game on Saturday, Sept. 27, the ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has altered the schedule of events for the Game Time 101 football celebration set for that same day.
Originally scheduled for 1:01 p.m. on Sept. 27 during the Game Time 101 event, the ETSU football team’s first official scrimmage will now be played at approximately 4:15 p.m., or 30 minutes following the conclusion of the Tennessee game. However, fans are encouraged to come early that day and watch the UT vs. Georgia game at noon on the Jumbotron, which will broadcast the game in its entirety. Other matchups will be aired on the Jumbotron throughout the day following the UT game.
The entire Game Time 101 celebration is free to the public.
Sponsored by Food City, East Coast Wings and East Tenn Rent-Alls, Game Time 101 will be held in the on-campus parking lot located behind Warf-Pickel Hall and adjacent to the new parking garage located on the west end of campus. Fans are encouraged to tailgate throughout the day on Saturday, and the lot will be available for tailgate setup beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday evening.
“Our hope is that this Game Time 101 event will give our fans a sneak peek at what an ETSU game-day experience will be like,” said ETSU Senior Associate Athletic Directior/COO Scott Carter. “We want people to come out, tailgate throughout the day, and just enjoy the entire experience.”
While the event will get underway at 9 a.m. with the start of ESPN’s Game Day coverage followed by the opening of the Kids Zone area at 11 a.m., the highlight of the morning will be an ETSU version of “Game Day” which will start at 11:15 on the main stage. ETSU’s Voice of the Bucs Jay Sandos will be joined by ETSU head coach Carl Torbush and other personalities to discuss the day’s college football games and update fans on news surrounding the ETSU program.
At noon, the UT game will kickoff, and contestants who wish to enter the day’s barbeque contest will need to submit their entries by 12:15 p.m. The winner of the barbeque contest will be announced at halftime of the Tennessee game.
Following the conclusion of the UT game, the ETSU football team and the Buccaneer drum line will take a “Buc Walk” through the tailgating area and make their way to the nearby football practice fields located just south of the Center for Physical Activity. The Bucs will then participate in their first official open scrimmage, with the start of that game scheduled to begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the UT/Georgia game.
An autograph session will follow the scrimmage at approximately 6 p.m., and fans wishing to participate in a special Cornhole Tournament can do so beginning at 5:45 p.m. The Food City “Tailgater of the Day” award will be announced at 6:30 p.m., followed by the fireworks display at dusk.
