JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 3, 2015) – ETSU head football coach Carl Torbush made a visit to Ridgeview Elementary School on Wednesday morning.

Torbush was the Mystery Reader of the Day for ETSU alum Mrs. Alice Ann Smith’s third grade class as he read the book “By My Brother’s Side” which was written by NFL stars Tiki and Ronde Barber. In addition to reading to the class, Coach Torbush also spoke to the children about morals, values, working hard and treating others with respect.

The class was excited to have Coach Torbush visit and speak to the group.

“We appreciated Coach Torbush taking the time to come to our school and discuss character, education and the three important bones in life,” said Smith, who graduated from ETSU in 2001 and is a third generation Buccaneer. “His influence goes further than he can even imagine. The excitement he has brought to our region with the return of Buccaneer football has been outstanding. Having such a wonderful role model come and speak to my students is life-changing and will be something they will always remember. As an educator I cannot express my gratitude for Coach Torbush taking time to invest in the region's next generation.”

Coach Torbush enjoyed speaking to the children and talking to them about school.

“It was a pleasure meeting Mrs. Smith’s class and principal Peggy Greene to participate in their reading program,” said Torbush. “I always enjoy taking the time to talk with children about treating others with respect and the importance of school. It was a fun morning, and I really enjoyed participating in their reading event.”

The ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics takes pride in its community service activities and strives for 100 percent participation from its student-athletes, coaches and administrators throughout the year.
