Bucs to open spring practice March 14; MSHA Spring Game to be held April 9

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 26, 2016) – Due to inclement weather that hit the Tri-Cities region this week, ETSU football head coach Carl Torbush and his staff announced changes to the Buccaneers’ spring practice schedule on Friday.

ETSU will now open spring practice on March 14 and will conclude the season with the Mountain States Health Alliance Spring Game on Saturday, April 9 at Kermit Tipton Stadium. In addition to the spring game, the Bucs will also scrimmage on Saturday, March 19 (on campus) and on Thursday, March 24 at Citizens Bank Stadium in Elizabethton.

“With the continuation of inclement weather that has hit our area, we’ve decided to push back spring practice until after spring break,” said Coach Torbush. “Our first practice will now be on March 14 and we will end with the spring game on April 9. Our intention was to have four-to-five practices before spring break for evaluation purposes, but with the rain/snow that has hit our area, we felt it was best for our program to begin practice after spring break. This now gives us an additional two weeks in our off-season program. We felt it was best to make this decision now instead of pushing back the start date day-by-day.”

Below is the tentative schedule of spring practice:

  • Monday, March 14 – Practice #1 (Shorts)
  • Tuesday, March 15 – Practice #2 (Shorts)
  • Wednesday, March 16 – Practice #3
  • Friday, March 18 – Practice #4
  • Saturday, March 19 – Practice #5 (Full Scrimmage)
  • Monday, March 21 – Practice #6
  • Tuesday, March 22 – Practice #7
  • Thursday, March 24 – Practice #8 (Scrimmage at Citizens Bank Stadium in Elizabethton; 6:30 p.m.)
  • Monday, March 28 – Practice #9
  • Tuesday, March 29 – Practice #10
  • Thursday, March 31 – Practice #11
  • Monday, April 4 – Practice #12
  • Tuesday, April 5 – Practice #13
  • Thursday, April 7 – Practice #14
  • Saturday, April 9 – MSHA Spring Game; 1 p.m. at Kermit Tipton Stadium
