JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (August 25, 2016) – The ETSU football team held its third and final scrimmage of fall camp on Thursday night at Kermit Tipton Stadium.
Below are some key stats from Thursday’s scrimmage.
ETSU’s quarterbacks finished 22-for-29 with 310 yards and two touchdowns.
Sophomore southpaw Austin Herink (Cleveland, Tenn.) paced the group with 107 passing yards (6-of-8), while sophomore Nick Sexton (Seymour, Tenn.) and red-shirt freshman Dylan Wieger (Kingsport, Tenn.) accounted for the touchdowns.
Sexton went 8-of-10 for 99 yards – including a 31-yard touchdown strike to sophomore tight end Dylan Dockery (Newport, Tenn.) … Sexton also had five rushing attempts for 68 yards and broke off the longest rush of night with a 24-yard run.
Wieger completed six of his nine passes for 88 yards and found freshman Caleb Woody (Maryville, Tenn.) for a 32-yard score.
The Buccaneer backs rushed 55 times for 198 yards and three touchdowns on the night.
Freshman Dontavius Monroe (Delray Beach, Fla.) led the Blue and Gold with eight rushes for 49 yards, while Matt Thompson (Morristown, Tenn.) and Matt Fox (Clinton, Tenn.) combined for 57 yards on 10 carries … Thompson totaled five carries for 21 yards and capped off a 4-play, 16-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run … Thompson also had a 45-yard reception on a third-and-long screen play … Fox had five attempts for 36 yards.
Sophomore Jajuan Stinson (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Herink had ETSU’s other two rushing scores … Stinson capped off a 6-play, 46-yard drive with a seven-yard scoring run on the opening series, while Herink scored on a 7-yard keeper.
Fourteen Buccaneer receivers accounted for 310 yards on 22 catches and two touchdowns.
Senior Chad Pritchard (Elizabethton, Tenn.) led the group with five catches for 52 yards, while Braxton Richburg (Hoschton, Ga.), Keith Coffee (Lilburn, Ga.), Matt Williams (Newton, N.C.) and Woody all hauled in two catches.
Woody finished the night with two receptions for 47 yards and one touchdown, while Dockery’s lone catch of the scrimmage was the 31-yard score from Sexton.
Junior linebacker Jevon Gooden (Jamaica Queens, N.Y.) led the defense with seven tackles on the night.
Sophomore defensive back Alonzo Francois (Ooltewah, Tenn.) captured the biggest highlight for the Buccaneer defense as he stripped the ball away from Keith Coffee and scored on a 54-yard fumble return.
Freshman linebacker JD Griffin (Kodak, Tenn.) and red-shirt freshman Charlie Jackson (Christiansburg, Va.) both totaled six tackles each.
Royce Turnbull (Charlotte, N.C.), Colton Lakes (Loveland, Ohio), Kahlil Mitchell (South Pittsburg, Tenn.), Trey Quillin (New Albany, Ohio) and Joe Pittman (Pell City, Ala.) all registered sacks for the Blue and Gold.
Sophomore JJ Jerman (Seymour, Tenn.) made a 36-yard field goal … Sophomore Joe DeFatta (Franklin, Tenn.) was 2-for-2 on field goal attempts – including a 47-yard make.
Thursday was Fan Appreciation Night, so the Buccaneers the held a meet-and-greet and autograph session following the scrimmage.
The Bucs wrap up practice for the week on Friday afternoon.
