SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Sept. 5, 2016) – ETSU sophomore kicker JJ Jerman (Seymour, Tenn.) was named the Southern Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, as the league office released its weekly football honors on Monday for games played from Sept. 1-3.
Jerman – who was 2-for-2 in field goal and extra-point attempts last Saturday at Kennesaw State – kicked the game-winning field goal in double overtime en route to lifting ETSU past Kennesaw State, 20-17, in the Bucs’ season opener. Jerman, a Fred Mitchell Award Watch list selection, gave the Blue and Gold a 3-0 lead when he connected on a 37-yard field in the second quarter against the Owls, while he made both PATs – extending his streak to 24 consecutive makes.
The win at Kennesaw State was the first Football Championship Subdivision victory for the Bucs since a 16-13 win over The Citadel in the 2003 season finale. ETSU returned to the gridiron as a FCS Independent in 2015 and are a member of the SoCon this season.
ETSU – who is in its open week – returns to action next Saturday, Sept. 17 when the Bucs host Western Carolina in its conference opener at Bristol Motor Speedway. For tickets, please call 423-BRISTOL.
