CHICAGO (Sept. 19, 2016) – After posting wins in its first two games of the season, the ETSU football team has caught the attention of voting members in the STATS FCS Top 25 Poll.
The Bucs – who opened the season with a 20-17 double-overtime win at Kennesaw State and followed that up with a thrilling 34-31 comeback win over Western Carolina last Saturday – have received votes in the latest STATS FCS Top 25 Poll, which was released on Monday afternoon. Overall, ETSU picked up seven votes, while the Bucs are one of six SoCon schools to either be ranked or receiving votes in the poll.
ETSU improved to 2-0 following last Saturday’s win at Bristol Motor Speedway, marking its best start to the season since opening 4-0 in 1999.
As a team, the Bucs rank fourth among FCS teams in third down conversion percentage (55.9), 14th in completion percentage (66.7), 17th in time of possession (33:35), 26th in team passing efficiency (146.78) and first down defense (41), and 28th in net punting (38). In addition, ETSU is one of 21 teams to have not thrown an interception and one of 27 teams to have scored on all red zone opportunities this season.
The Bucs hit the road this weekend as ETSU travels to Spartanburg, S.C., to take on Wofford. Kickoff is set for 1:34 p.m., at Gibbs Stadium. The Terriers are also receiving votes in the Top 25.
